Giant XCO Round 1 coming up!

The first round of the Giant XCO series is coming up this Sunday 10th August. Have you registered yet? If you have any issues registering, please email timing@ambc.asn.au.

First run sign-on opens at 08:30. Racing starts at 09:30

Second run sign-on opens at 10:30. Racing starts at 11:30

This round we head up to Eagle MTB Park where Dave Knight – race director – has eyed off a fast 5km loop that is sure to include some favourites!

Plenty of prizes on offer for 1st-3rd places in all categories – Giant workshop vouchers, Maxxis tyres, Paris Creek Dairy packs and more!

Parking and race start will be in the mezzanine area and the gates will be open for competitors and spectators to drive in – just make sure you don’t get locked in afterwards!

We are looking for volunteers to help with course pack-up. If you can help out, register your interest with Robyn Couch via email – racevolunteers@ambc.asn.au

Giant Cycling World Adelaide have generously supplied a major draw prize for the end of the year – valued at around $3000! To be in the draw to win it, you must have raced in at least three AMBC races and be at the end of year function (not the AGM) – so if you didn’t get to any of the Hammer Nutrition Enduros, make sure you come along to the XCO rounds so you qualify!

18 hours of Melrose is on again!

If you had 18 hours free, what would you do with it? Well, the guys at Over the Edge in Melrose have thought one possible way to spend 18 hours – MTBing!

From Over the Edge –

We are still on a high from this year’s Fat Tyre Festival so imagine what we have in store for you at this years 18 hours of Melrose! As with all Melrose rides the 18hrs is eventful, relaxed and very social! Melrose has forged a reputation within the mountain bike community as a stress free destination with some great, hand made single-track. The 18hrs of Melrose exudes all of this with live music thrown in for good measure.

This is a team or solo event and the winner is the team or individual who completes the most laps of the course in 18 hours (starting at midnight on Friday 5th September). If 18hrs is more than you can take in and you prefer some extra Zs then 6hrs of Melrose is the Doctors prescription! 6hrs will start at 12pm on the Saturday and finish at 6pm alongside the 18 hour riders.

The course last year worked really well so expect a nice flowy fun trail with a few technical bits that Melrose is known for – approx 10km loops! As long as you have ridden some singletrack it should be achievable by almost all fairly competent mountain bike riders with a reasonable level of fitness. It is not designed for the complete novice or inexperienced mountain bike rider. Each lap of the course will take an average of 45 mins – 1 hour.

If you want trophies, lots of hype and a ticker tape parade, then this probably isn’t your event…but if you want beer short-cuts, giant games of twister and a uniquemidnight start, then circle the 5 & 6 of September in your calendar now because you’ve found your mountain bike event!

Registrations open 1st July – this year we are capping the event at 200 so get in quick!!

Don’t forget to register for the race by 10am Saturday morning. If you have any dramas with registration, email  timing@ambc.asn.au.

This round brings us to Dazzleland at Mt. Torrens. These trails are only ride-able at sanctioned events so get on it and have a shot.

If you’re aim is to contend in the Elite Series this year and you’ve only made it to one of the Enduro races so far, you’ll need to make sure you complete one lap at this round to qualify.

The club is always happy to accept volunteers, so if you can help on the day then contact  racevolunteers@ambc.asn.au to let us know. Every volunteer gets a transferable race entry and a “Timekeepers BBQ super-happy-fun-time meal deal” (sausage with bread, onions and sauces, tin of soft drink and there’s talk of some soup for this round – if you ask nicely, we’ll even warm it up for you!).

The club has introduced an emergency contact phone that will be used at races to contact a race official at the start/finish area in case of an accident. We have also printed up some stickers for the backs of race plates. They will be available for people to grab at registration.

This number is to only be used for emergencies and will only be monitored while events are being run, so don’t call it for general information.

SEE YOU OUT THERE!
