Summer racing goodness

Summer!! long days, warm weather, how nice!! No way could we let it slide without a little bit of summer racing fun. Our plan is for each race to have an element of fun or something different. The first one will be a twilight race to celebrate the opening of the new trail network in O’Halloran Hill. Save the dates, more details to follow in December. We’ll post events on facebook and strava as well.

Annual General Meeting

So we’ve already mentioned that the AGM will take place right before presentations for the State Champs and will take about 5-10 minutes but what does this mean?

Well I’m glad you asked. At the AGM, all committee positions are declared vacant and nominations are taken for all committee positions. If more than one person nominates for any one committee position, the position goes to a vote from the present club members.  We have already received some nominations so thank you to those people who have either nominated or have shown interest in being involved in 2018. However, we still have plenty of positions that we need to fill…..the main one being Race Director without which we cannot hold events (click here for more info). There are a variety of roles available playing to various strengths. Check out the word cloud or head over to our contacts page for a list of positions. If you think you can help the club in other ways please contact us we’d love to hear from you. If you have any questions about any of the positions or you would like to nominate please contact us on info@ambc.asn.au or contact the club mobile on 0408 840 610.

Mountain Bike Australia will provide insurance cover to all participants FREE OF CHARGE regardless of whether they are MTBA members or not. Adelaide Mountain Bike Club will provide a great day out!

Monarto Forest, aka Monarta Woodlands, or my personal reference Calli Tower Single Track is fast flowy and flat with bermed corners, dirt moguls and a sandy fire road. It is only 35 minutes from the CBD up the freeway just before Monarto Zoo and opposite the callington phone tower. It is an ideal location for beginners to ride or an ideal location for a warm up to an epic ride that takes in the jailbreak and rocky gully single track that Monarto/Murray Bridge is known for. There is nothing on the trail that would catch you out. All abilities welcome.

ON THE DAY
Sign on will open at around 8:15am with the first race under way by 9am.

Race 1: Fast and furious hot lap race. Ride as fast as you can and really blow that heart rate out of this world. We’ll have categories for men, women, juniors and cx bikes. Cash prizes up for grabs. Prizes will be awarded for 1st place and a random mid-field place. Anyone can be a winner!
Race 2: Poker race. Max 1hr 15mins of riding and the best poker hand will win, not the first person across the line. Complete either 5 laps, 4 laps, 3 laps ….choose the one you feel comfortable with and the one that you will complete in 1hr 15mins.
Crazy sock competition – wear your craziest socks, and if you don’t have any get your plain ones and sew, hang or do something crazy and funky to them. Best socks will be determined by crowd chearing.

There is no transponder hire anyore and you don’t need to own one either.  We still use one but its included in your race entry along with the race plate.

VOLUNTEERS – The club races wouldn’t be possible without our fabulous volunteers that help out.  If you are able to help out this sunday or your cheer squad is able to help out then please contact Robyn on racevolunteers@ambc.asn.au .  We are particularly in need of help with race set up and pack up.

MEMBERSHIP – If your membership has expired or you’re not a member then now is a great time to renew and avoid paying a $25 day license. Racing as a club member works out cheaper if you plan on racing all the club events and your membership will also allow you to race at a discounted cost at other mtba affiliated events (GESA, Inside Line, PACC Cyclocross).   Click here to find out more about membership or to join/renew.  If you’re not 100% convinced that racing is for you then you can still race at member prices by taking out MTBA’s 2-month free trial membership offer click here.

LOCATION – Make sure you rock up to Fox Creek this sunday morning.  Entry is off Croft Rd at the triangle just down the road a tiny bit from Anderson Hill Winery.  The gates will be open on race day so drive in and follow the main fireroad to the parking area.  For details on the park and how to get there click here

ROAD CLOSURES – If you are travelling from the north then make sure you allow plenty of time to get to fox as there are some road closures in place. Fox Creek Road is closed from intersection with Croft and Coldstore Roads for approx 2km towards Cudlee Creek Road. I also noticed a rd closure on lobethal road near swamp road in lenswood. To check for road closures click here or here

COURSE MAP – The lap is around 5.5km long with 160m of climbing. The first half is the techy part of the lap opening up into fast flow trail before climbing up spooky forest and making your way back to the start/finish along dynamic tension. Dave our race director will be setting up the course Friday around 9am, if you’re avaiable to help out then he would love a hand. Please email him on racedirector@ambc.asn.au.
