VOLUNTEERS – The club races wouldn’t be possible without our fabulous volunteers that help out.  If you are able to help out this sunday or your cheer squad is able to help out then please contact Robyn on racevolunteers@ambc.asn.au .  We are particularly in need of help with race set up and pack up.

MEMBERSHIP – If your membership has expired or you’re not a member then now is a great time to renew and avoid paying a $25 day license. Racing as a club member works out cheaper if you plan on racing all the club events and your membership will also allow you to race at a discounted cost at other mtba affiliated events (GESA, Inside Line, PACC Cyclocross).   Click here to find out more about membership or to join/renew.  If you’re not 100% convinced that racing is for you then you can still race at member prices by taking out MTBA’s 2-month free trial membership offer click here.

LOCATION – Make sure you rock up to Fox Creek this sunday morning.  Entry is off Croft Rd at the triangle just down the road a tiny bit from Anderson Hill Winery.  The gates will be open on race day so drive in and follow the main fireroad to the parking area.  For details on the park and how to get there click here

ROAD CLOSURES – If you are travelling from the north then make sure you allow plenty of time to get to fox as there are some road closures in place. Fox Creek Road is closed from intersection with Croft and Coldstore Roads for approx 2km towards Cudlee Creek Road. I also noticed a rd closure on lobethal road near swamp road in lenswood. To check for road closures click here or here

COURSE MAP – The lap is around 5.5km long with 160m of climbing. The first half is the techy part of the lap opening up into fast flow trail before climbing up spooky forest and making your way back to the start/finish along dynamic tension. Dave our race director will be setting up the course Friday around 9am, if you’re avaiable to help out then he would love a hand. Please email him on racedirector@ambc.asn.au.

Thank you to all the members, competitors, sponsors, committee and volunteers who have made 2016 a great year so far, the club wouldn’t exist without you!

The 2016 XCO State Championships will be hold at Fox Creek 6th November 2016 and online entries are now open.  We’ll post more details very soon but most of it is already covered on our champs page.

agm

The Annual General Meeting (AGM) will be taking place right before presentations for the State Champs. This will be at around 2:00pm. The official proceedings will take about 5-10 minutes and cover the financials of the club for the year and the committee members for 2016.

At the AGM, all committee positions are declared vacant and nominations are taken for all committee positions. If more than one person nominates for any one committee position, the position goes to a vote from the present club members.

To keep things quick the club would appreciate any nominations for any committee positions prior to the day. Please send nominations to info@ambc.asn.au or contact the club mobile on 0408 840 610.

Committee positions are available on the contact page and if you have any questions about any of the positions you are encouraged to send an email to the relevant address listed for the position.

Junior Dirt Skills

White logoThanks to a joint venture between the Adelaide Mountain Bike Club and Port Adelaide Cycling Club, led by the ideas mastermind, Kain Gardner, Junior Skill Clinic was born!

Wanting to see the sport grow, the Junior Skills Clinic was needed to bridge the gap that cycling had, a place for young kids to have fun, learn skills & develop as riders.  Kicking off the first of 6 sessions back on May 29th we saw 37 keen kids rock up, plus a group of extra keen volunteer coaches! (Many are now qualified MTBA Level 0 Coaches).

Ages of the kids varied from 4-13 as well as the obvious skill differences.  Classes were split in 4 groups of varying skills  & over the following 4 sessions we have seen the confidence & skills across all ages develop.  The main focuses have been around fun, basic skills, bike positioning, some simple self-bike checks, riding in groups etc. 13267796_10207277384865763_1479976504812547572_n It’s been great to see the pure enjoyment of the kids (& the parents!!) both during & after the classes.

As mentioned, the progression all the kids have shown has been the most rewarding aspect from my perspective, from basic skills during classes to running short course simulated races, it’s been a pleasure to be part of.  Highlighting the above has been the addition of more junior classes to the PACC CX events, specifically seeing the large amount of the course participants taking on the challenge of the State Champs IMG_7529on the weekend!!  So far the Junior Skills Clinics have excelled all our expectations, all the coaches have been so proud with the development of all the groups.

Talks of Spring/Summer clinics are already starting to kick off, leading to exciting times for the development of this great sport. Thanks to all the parents for taking the time to enrol the kids, & also to all the volunteers for giving up your time to make it happen. Mostly, thanks to both AMTBC & PACC for coming up with the idea to fill the void in the junior ages we had.
