Melrose Fat Tyre Festival

Come to Melrose this June Long weekend and celebrate the love of mountain bike riding at the Melrose Fat Tyre Festival supported by Schwalbe Tyres.

An event designed for all ages and all abilities.

The kids schedule is jam packed with jumping castles, mountain bike orienteering, treasure hunts, pump track, skills clinics and rides and a bmx display by the Wellington Cycle boys and our international guest star Darren Berrecloth.

The slopestyle legend and Crankwerx Champion Bear Claw A.K.A. Darren Berrecloth recently starred in the movie “where the trail ends” and is widely known for his exploits in the Slopestyle scene all around the world.

Darren has an incredibly busy schedule during the northern summer and this year is no exception so we are really lucky and super excited that he has chosen to come to the Flinders Ranges. Richard Bruce, one of the event organisers said.

The Claw will be running some skills sessions, participating in the Super D enduro and having some fun at the Bicycle Speedway Challenge.

Cristina Begy is another inspiration who will be coming over from the States to offer her knowledge to all the women just new into the sport of mountain biking. What an amazing experience to be taught from one of the best in the world!

Saturday afternoon come on over to Bartagunyah Winery where the Super D Challenge will be held. Come and cheer the riders on and sample some local Bartagunyah wine. From 6pm stay for our BBQ and live music in the woolshed – cost is $20 and the money goes towards our local mountain bike club – Southern Flinders Rough Riders. SFRR volunteers have done a wonderful job getting the trails ready for this years event and without them, our sponsors and the generous support from our local landowners this event would not be possible.

Sunday’s programme has the Mt Remarkable Bicycle Speedway challenge, a twighlight market showcasing our local produce and crafts, live music, BMX display, an information session for our riders at the North Star Hotel, MTB orieteering night ride and Kareoke at Mt Remarkable Hotel.

So if you have always wanted to learn how to mountain bike, this event is not to be missed, a fun and social weekend for you and the family.

More information and registrations – go to www.melrosemountainbike.com or contact Kerri on 0412 038 994 if you would like to have a stall at the market.
